Day worker center to merge with St. Vincent de Paul

Beginning April 1, the Los Altos-based St. Joseph the Worker Center will merge with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The worker center will "cease to exist as an independent entity," said Elizabeth Keller, executive director of the worker center, "and become a program of St. Vincent de Paul."

Barbara Collins Callison's memories of Los Altos begin in the summer of 1940. Her first home in Los Altos was on a half acre on San Antonio Road between Pepper Drive and Lyell Street. The awards recognize the varsity team from each CCS sport with the highest collective grade point average. Pinewood was tops in girls basketball (3.7590), boys basketball (3.6670) and boys soccer (3.5320). Mountain View won the award for girls soccer (3.6281). Runner-ups included the Los Altos High boys basketball team (3.5641) and the Pinewood girls soccer team (3.6270).

Charlene Archibeque, a Los Altos Hills resident and music professor at San Jose State University, is among five nominated for Wang Awards, a statewide award program established by California State University trustee Stanley Wang. The award celebrates CSU faculty and administrators who "have made exemplary contributions and achievements in their academic disciplines," Wang said.
