Memories of horse rides through 'beautiful' hills

Ruth McMahon arrived in Los Altos in 1940 as a young bride. Shortly thereafter, her husband, Mac Merritt, went off to war. She filled six days a week with work at a Palo Alto clothing store. Every Sunday she took long rides in the hills on her beloved horse. She shared memories of the war years during an interview with Don McDonald in l997.

St. Francis High senior Stacy Millichap has been named to the 1998 Volleyball Magazine High School All-American team. The outside hitter was one of just 18 girls in the nation to make the squad. Millichap was an integral member of a St. Francis team that claimed its second straight state title this past season. She plans to play for UCLA in the fall.
