Tom Hennig of Los Altos was among the 14 individuals and families honored with St. Benedict medals March 20 for being instrumental to the founding of Woodside Priory School.

The medal has been awarded only a few times over the past years to special benefactors.

Alastair Kenneth Dickson of Los Altos recently graduated from the University of Oregon. Dickson earned a bachelor's degree in political science.

Alexander Rubin of Mountain View, Andrew C. Fong of Los Altos Hills and Michael Hoa of Los Altos, were recenlty named to the dean's list at Boston Unviersity for the fall semester.

Sara Beth Laboskey, Gregory Scott Mitchell and Brandon Hugh Stroy, all of Los Altos, were recently named to the dean's list at Duke University for the fall semester. To make the dean's list, a student must rank in the top third of the college.

Cynthia Lynn Davidson of Los Altos Hills was recently named to the dean's list for the fall 1998 semester at Lehigh University.

Julia A. Boyd, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James Boyd of Los Altos Hills, was recently named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Emory College i nGeorgia.

Students must have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher to be named to the list.

Kevin H. Blodgett of Los Altos and Neal J. Yung of Los Altos Hills were named to the dean's list for the fall semster at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.

Blodgett is a sophomore majoring in chemical engineering.

Yung is a sophomore majoring in engineering.

Cynthia Wordell of Los Altos was recently appointed to the Board of Regents of John F. Kennedy University.

The Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School Board of Trustees selected the following seven students from within the district as "Students of the Month," during the first school semester from September through December:

Naomi Arana, who is a senior at Mountain View High School, was honored during September for playing a crucial role in welcoming new students to the campus during freshman orientation

Arana is an honor student. She has thrown discus and shot put for the Varsity Track team all throughout high school, and she planned on joining the varsity girls' basketball team this season. Arana said she plans to become a pediatrician.

Jaime Chavez was a junior at Mountain View High School when she was named student of the month in October for her work as chair on the school's Homecoming Committee. Chavez was also a cheerleader; a member of the school's advanced choir, The Madrigals; and has been singing since third grade.Chavez moved to Wyoming last November.

Ryan Brown, who is a senior at Los Altos High School, was honored in October. He has served as editor of the school newspaper, The Talon; was a member of the homecoming court in October; and is a member of the National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation.

Brown was a member of the school's varsity basketball team for four years, playing guard and serving as co-captain. As a member of the cross country team, he won first place.

Megan Legenos, a student at Alta Vista High School, was honored in October for her "positive mental attitude." Legenos earned 93 points on her progress report - a record, according to school staff.

School staff members say Legenos is a talented artist. She is taking astronomy and a step and sculpt class at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

Legenos said she plans to become a marine biologist.

Alexander Anton, a senior at Los Altos High School, was honored in November for his "desire in helping to better" his school. Anton has been an active participant in the class council; homecoming week; fund-raisers and the school's service project, "Step Out 'n' Serve."

Anton has been a member of the school's wrestling team, swimming team and cross country team.

He said he plans to study construction management.

Anthony Darrouzet-Nardi, a senior at Mountain View High School, was honored in November.

Darrouzet-Nardi has been a member of the school's marching band for four years. He was recently selected as section leader of the trumpet. Students voted him "Best Musician" this year. Darrouzet-Nardi served on the selection committee that interviewed replacements for music instructor Rich Alipaz.

He has studied trumpet for nine years, playing in musicals, jazz band, wind ensemble, as well as a swing band he put together with a few other students at Mountain View.

He also co-founded the Environmental Club at Mountain View.

Darrouzet-Nardi said he plans to continue to play music.

Tom Hillard, who is a student in the district's Middle College program at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, was honored in November for doing exceptionally well in his studies.

Hillard has been studying electronic music. He often spends his free time playing his guitar for his classmates at Foothill.
