Millichap honored

St. Francis High senior Stacy Millichap has been named to the 1998 Volleyball Magazine High School All-American team. The outside hitter was one of just 18 girls in the nation to make the squad. Millichap was an integral member of a St. Francis team that claimed its second straight state title this past season. She plans to play for UCLA in the fall.

Spartans score

Last week, the Town Crier recognized the Mountain View High girls soccer team for winning a Central Coast Section Scholastic Championship Team Award by posting the highest collective grade point average (3.6281) in its sport. The Town Crier has since received the list of the Mountain View players who made this possible: Alison Bailey, Karin Buser, Stephanie Chen, Cassandra Damm, Jaci Feinstein, Tonia Giraud, Michelle Huber, Bess Keigwin, Ellie Loomis, Jennifer Maggi, Marie Marsman, Stephanie Moniz, Carrie Pike, Megan Roarty, Megan Robertson, Jennifer Ronconi and Caroline Wilmuth.

Paddlers welcome

Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) invites paddlers of all abilities to try out canoes and kayaks free of charge this Sunday at Shoreline Lake in Mountain View. The event will go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Canoes and kayaks from a variety of manufacturers will be available to demo, and company representatives will be on hand to answer questions. Soccer tryouts

The Mountain View-Los Altos Blitz, a select CYSA under-11 boys soccer team, is holding tryouts from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday at Los Altos High. The Blitz is coached by Tim Hanley, goalie coach for the San Jose Clash. Prospective players should RSVP Peter Johnson at 941-1605.
