The St. Francis boys were led by distance runner Eric Chaves and sprinter Mike Atkinson, who each won two individual events. Chaves won the mile in 4 minutes, 38 seconds and the two mile in 9:59. Atkinson prevailed in the 200-meter run (23.0) and the 400 run (52.6). Other St. Francis winners included Matt Chisam in the 110 hurdles (15.9), Forrest Mozart in the 100 dash (11.2), Chris Allen in the 800 run (2:07), Benard Thomas in the 300 hurdles (44.1), Kyle Auclair in the high jump (5-8) and Brian My in the pole vault (12-6). The St. Francis girls improved to 3-0 in the SCVAL De Anza Division by beating Paly. The Lancers were led by Cindy Hirsch, who won the triple jump (34 feet, 4 inches) and long jump (16-10 3/4).

Girls coach Roberta Chisam said this is the best St. Francis team she's had in at least two years and hopes her Lancers can challenge defending De Anza Division champion Milpitas this season.

"We're improving weekly," Chisam said. "We have a good bunch of kids on this team and they have a lot of spirit."

The lady Lancers travel to Saratoga tomorrow for a 3 p.m. meet.
