The program, begun by the Rotary Club of Los Altos, matches needy students with helping adults. Residents of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View are invited to learn about volunteer opportunities involving youth, including tutoring, child advocacy, and youth court. "The purpose (of the event) is to bring people out of the community who want to bring some assistance to the young people of Los Altos and Mountain View," said Bob Adams, the program's founder. "It could be tutoring, mentoring or coaching. One thing we're attempting to do is to give exposure to the various agencies that want volunteers and what their needs are to the people who can fulfill those needs." Adams said the child advocacy segment of the program has expanded, and a "Tennis At Noon" program at Egan Intermediate School in Los Altos has been added. He said there are about 125 volunteers currently involved in the program. A Partners For New Generations symposium, featuring guest speakers, is set for Sept. 30 at Graham Middle School in Mountain View. Partners For New Generations, in its third year, is sponsored by local Rotary Clubs and the Los Altos Community Foundation. For more information, call 562-1195. |
