In addition to cutting the ribbon and officially opening the 1-mile trail through one of the most scenic sections, the ceremony recognized local, regional and state representatives, agencies and organizations who have made development of this section of the trail possible. Officials said the trail section, called Reach 3, has been a key element of the overall development of Stevens Creek Trail because it connects to light rail, Caltrain and major bus lines, providing a 3.5-mile bicycle commute corridor to employees in the North Bayshore area. In addition to the trail acting as a commute corridor, it connects neighborhoods to other city parks, downtown Mountain View, and Shoreline Regional Park. Major Reach 3 elements, in addition to the all-weather trail, are undercrossings at Middlefield, Highway 85 and Dana Street; bridges at Creekside Park, Central Avenue and Landels Park; and the quarter-mile Central Expressway overcrossing.
