Tennis team reaches NorCal finals

he Foothill College men's tennis team moved closer to another state championship April 20, beating American River 5-0 in the NorCal semifinals at Cañada College.

The Owls received wins from singles players Taki Hori, Richie Thompson, Ben Dexback, Rodrigo Godoy and Brian Ball. All but No. 2 player Thompson won in straight sets.

The three doubles matches were called before completion because the Owls had already clinched the match in singles.

Foothill (15-6) plays the winner of Fresno-Santa Rosa in the NorCal finals today in Modesto.

Swimming

The Foothill women were third and the men fourth at the Coast Conference Championships, held last Friday and Saturday at Ohlone College.

Molly Swanson won the 50-and the 100-yard freestyle for the women. Ben Phipps claimed the 100 and 200 butterfly, plus the 200 individual medley for the men, while Roger Alvarado won the 200 breaststroke.
