The cities of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, in coordination with the Home Composting Education Program for Santa Clara County, are sponsoring a Composting Basics workshop 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave.
This class will cover the fundamentals of backyard and worm composting. Admission is free, but pre-registration is required.

History House looking for docents
The Los Altos History House Museum needs resident volunteers who are interested in local history and enjoy working with people.
Docent training sessions are scheduled for 1-3 p.m. and 3-5 p.m., Saturday, at the History House, 52 S. San Antonio Road, behind the main library.

Local Red Cross establishes Kosovo link
The Palo Alto chapter of the American Red Cross last week announced development of a new Internet service to help families use the Red Cross Web site, www.redcross.org, to communicate information about loved ones displaced in Kosovo.
Through the service, Red Cross officials said individuals will have the ability to provide specific information about a displaced family member in the conflict zone, including digital photographs of persons being sought.
Help arthritis, win a diamond
Local volunteers of the Arthritis Foundation are conducting a $10,000 diamond raffle with only 100 tickets being offered at $100 each.
The prize is a one carat, brilliant cut, round diamond, provided by Diamonds of Palo Alto, appraised at more than $10,000.
The winning ticket will be drawn at the Women's Golf Clinic for the Arthritis Foundation on May 17 at the Saratoga Country Club.

Bonsai club spring exhibit
The Peninsula Bonsai Club is presenting its 46th annual spring exhibit noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple, 2751 Louis Road.
The event includes demonstrations and prizes. Demonstrations are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The exhibit comprises more than 250 specimens.
