The Millennium Executive Committee, representing Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, has been planning a Dec. 31 celebration that will usher in the turn of the century in a big way.

The committee has been meeting weekly to work on all of the plans for a momentous night that will include top-notch dining, entertainment and dancing at the Hillview Community Center site in Los Altos.

"We are so proud of the fact that we are the only two towns around that are planning a wonderful experience for our residents," said Gunilla Cook, executive director. "While we are planning a wonderful party, we are also planning to leave a permanent legacy for our two towns. Our legacy will be a gift to the History House Education Center for them to use to help complete their project and to develop some permanent exhibits for the center." Cook was referring to a $1.65 million project under way at the Los Altos History House Museum.

"The legacy will incorporate four areas: it will be permanent, it will be functional, it will be artistically beautiful, and it will be educational," Cook said.

In order to do this, the committee needs to raise funds through underwriting and sponsorships. "Because we are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, the tax benefits for everyone are great," Cook said.

The Millennium Executive Committee hosted a champagne brunch on April 25 at the estate of Los Altos Hills council member Steve Finn. At the brunch, Rick Hems Production Company, which is organizing the activities, gave a detailed explanation of the evening. Paul Alexander, from Continental Caterers, provided the brunch.

The purpose of the brunch was to inform participants on the kinds of underwriting available for the event, Cook said.

Some of the guests on hand at the April 25 brunch were: Jack and Nancy Horton, Dan and Karen Lynch, Lydia and John Vidovich, Abby Ahrens, Marion and Bob Grimm, Katie Clancy, Shirley Cavigli, Tom Steding, Walter and Patricia Joyce, Gay Krause, Marilyn and David Pratt, Charlotte and Murray Horton, Sid Hubbard, Marsha and Steve Robertson, Annette Hull, Tom Smith and Karen Melbye, Kathy and Lee Lera, John Moss, and Elaine and Rodney Anderson.
