Following up on last year's Fourth of July ceremony for a veterans memorial monument in Shoup Park, members of the Veterans Memorial Association of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills have erected a large plaque inside the Los Altos main library that thanks the memorial's many contributors.

The plaque, about 30 inches wide and 3 feet deep, lists the names of approximately 700 contributors who made the 8-foot-tall "Cradle Of Liberty" statue possible, according to Los Altos Hills resident Bill Henderson, co-chairman of the association. Henderson said the plaque was installed last week.

In a letter to contributors, Henderson and co-chairman Jay Brandon said the plaque will be at the library until the new Los Altos History House education center is completed.

"At that time, the plaque will be replaced with an album listing the names of the donors and a pictorial history of the memorial project. Two other binders will cover the details of the project from its onset to the dedication of the memorial in Shoup Park.

Henderson said the association has scheduled another celebration this year, on July 4, in Shoup Park.
