Special to the Town Crier

The 52nd annual Kiwanis Pet Parade and the 24th annual Los Altos Rotary "Fine Art In The Park" highlight a weekend of family entertainment this Saturday and Sunday in downtown Los Altos.

Also among the Mayfest activities, the Sertoma pancake breakfast returns, this time at a new location, Second and Main streets, downtown.

The pet parade gets under way at 10 a.m., and runs along Main and State streets.

After the parade, which runs less than an hour, the Town Crier will hold its annual pet parade contest in the Community Plaza, at the intersection of State and Main streets. Prizes will be given for best overall participants, most creative/unusual entries and best pet and owner look-alikes.

This year's Rotary art show features a weekend entertainment schedule with shows and activities for children of all ages to enjoy. The festivities are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, in Lincoln Park near downtown Los Altos.

Children's stage performances begin with "Cotton Candy Express," running from 11:15 a.m. to noon, and 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., both days. This high-energy musical concert is designed to open the imagination of young minds to the wonder of science and math through interactive music, fun and games.

Lori Moitie and RJ Johnson, the energetic duo of the "Cotton Candy Express," are seasoned performers. They have successfully built their show into the most requested act in Northern California and are also the hosts of the Kids' WB 20 Club.

Other children's stage entertainment includes the following on both days: Jay the Juggler, noon to 12:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.; magic tricks by Tim O'Connor, 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. and 3 to 3:45 p.m.; balloon creations, noon to 2 p.m.; and face painting, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will also be a variety of food and drink, live music plus a display of fine art and quality craft work by more than 190 juried artists for everyone to enjoy.

Proceeds from the art show benefit charitable projects and organizations such as the Rotary AIDS Project and the Community Services Agency.

The pancake breakfast, featuring pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee, runs 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

The Los Altos Sertoma Club has pulled out of the breakfast, but Los Altos member Ned Pabst is leading the efforts of other local Sertoma clubs to continue the breakfast this year.

He said the $5 breakfast includes unlimited pancakes.
