"I am delighted the way it turned out," said Roy Lave, president of the Community Foundation, the organization that established the house. Lave said the foundation is still exploring ways to manage the program. He said an intern is scheduled to organize files at the house this summer. Volunteers will continue the administrative duties in the fall. Foundation member Curtis Cole will work on the mechanics of the day-to-day operations, such as scheduling office and meeting space for small groups, Cole said. The Community House is a 1,300-square-foot bungalow built in Los Altos during the 1920s that the foundation moved last year from Edith Avenue to its present location on Hillview Avenue. The foundation is using the house's four main rooms for a mailboxes and literature rack area; meeting space; a shared administrative work area; and an office for the Los Altos Community Foundation and the Los Altos Mediation program. The house also has two "porch rooms" and a sizable attic. Community House equipment available for use includes phones, a copier, a fax machine and a kitchen. There also is a computer and workroom. Use of these services is on the honor system, with payment for approximate expenses. The conference room is available for occupancy up to 10 people and reservations are required. The Community House is located at 183 Hillview Ave., Los Altos. To make reservations, call Curtis Cole at 415-810-9984 or fax 960-1624. |
