The joys of train travel
Bill Goss will present slides of "North American Train Travel" at the Los Altos Senior Coordinating Council noon, Tuesday, in Room A at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave.
Travel highlights of Canada, Big Sly Country, and New England Fall foliage will be seen.
Bring your own brown bag lunch. Coffee and dessert will be available for $1 at the door. Reservations for dessert are required by calling the Los Altos Senior Center at 948-7483.
Classical fun at Hidden Villa
Families are invited to a concert and workshop geared to children, offered by chamber music group Opus 90, at Hidden Villa on from noon - 2 p.m., Saturday.
Kids will participate in making and performing a musical composition, learning about the natural origin of modern instruments, meeting professional musicians in an informal setting, and hear ing music that shows the interrelatedness of the arts and our natural environment.
Opus 90, a locally-based chamber music society founded by musicians with national and international performing experience, is dedicated to making classical music more accessible to audiences of all ages.
The event begins at noon with a bring-your-own picnic lunch on the lawn of the Duveneck House gardens, followed by a workshop and concert.
The concert features a performance of "The Melon Patch." Cost is $6 per person. For reservations, call 949-8653.
LAH cleanup set for June 5
Los Altos Hills will hold a clean-up day 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 5. Drop-off locations include the town hall parking lot, Magdalena Road at Interstate 280, Foothill College parking lot C, the Westwind Barn at Altamont Road and Black Mountain, and Page Mill Road at Arastradero.
Residents may bring non-recyclable solid waste and trash, and up to 30 gallons per household each of debris from building construction or demolition, and concrete, asphalt, rock and dirt.
Recyclable materials including unpainted and untreated wood, scrap metal, refrigerators and stoves with the Freon and element removed, and undamaged furniture that can be donated to charity, will be accepted.
Yard trimmings that are less than 6 inches in diameter and less than 6 feet long will be accepted.
Small scrap metal, scrap aluminum and cast aluminum may also be dropped off, although it can not exceed 40 pounds or 2 feet in any dimension for any single item.
No hazardous or toxic materials will be accepted.
Participants will be limited to two standard truck loads of debris.
Residents must show their drivers' licenses to a representative of the Los Altos Garbage company to verify eligibility.
