Farmers' Market opens at Foothill College

The 11th annual California Certified Los Altos Farmers' Market will open 9 a.m., June 5, in parking lot C at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. The market will be open every Saturday until Nov. 20.

Restaurateur-chef Jesse Cool and the Green Grocer II, Pete Carcione, will lead the list of bumper crops and special events on opening day.

Approximately 40 growers and producers will offer patrons such items as bing cherries from Hollister, vine ripened tomatoes, sweet white corn organic vegetables and berries from Watsonville.

Oven fresh breads, ocean fish and cut flowers will be among the opening day offerings.

There is a $2 parking fee at the Foothill College parking lots.

Stress reduction week at LAHS

Los Altos High School is currently holding its first stress reduction week this week on campus, coordinated by massage therapist Cheryle Gail of Massage by Cheryle and the Associated Student Body Government class.

Students will be exposed to alternative lifestyles and methods of relaxation.

During lunchtime, samples of healthy foods, such as orange and flax juice, are being offered. Organizers said the event is being offered to increase school spirit, along with spreading awareness of dangerous and unhealthy lifestyles.

LAH cleanup set for June 5

Los Altos Hills will hold a clean-up day 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 5. Drop-off locations include the town hall parking lot, Magdalena Road at Interstate 280, Foothill College parking lot C, the Westwind Barn at Altamont Road and Black Mountain, and Page Mill Road at Arastradero.

Residents may bring non-recyclable solid waste and trash, and up to 30 gallons per household each of debris from building construction or demolition, and concrete, asphalt, rock and dirt.

Recyclable materials include unpainted and untreated wood, scrap metal, refrigerators and stoves with the Freon and element removed, and undamaged furniture that can be donated to charity. Yard trimmings that are less than 6 inches in diameter and less than 6 feet long will be accepted.

Small scrap metal, scrap aluminum and cast aluminum may also be dropped off, although it cannot exceed 40 pounds or 2 feet in any dimension for any single item.

No hazardous or toxic materials will be accepted.

Participants will be limited to two standard truckloads of debris. Residents must show their drivers licenses to a representative of the Los Altos Garbage company to verify eligibility.

Los Altos Masons plan dinner programs

Los Altos Masonic Lodge is sponsoring a series of after-dinner programs during 1999, and the public is invited. The presentations will be held in the downstairs dining room of the Lodge, at 146 Main St.

Programs will be held on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Plans for the year include fire prevention and safety, earthquake preparedness, first aid, and the kids identification program, sponsored by the California Masonic Grand Lodge.

Art & Wine Festival photos sought

Preparing to celebrate its 20th annual Arts & Wine Festival, the Los Altos Village Association is seeking photos and memorabilia from past festivals.
