Police make arrest in kidnap attempt

Los Altos Police arrested a 23-year-old Livermore man on charges of false imprisonment regarding an attempted kidnap on May 12 in Los Altos.

During routine patrol on May 13, police found an unoccupied white sport utility vehicle similar to the one described by the victim. The registered owner matched the description of the man who, the day before, had tried to lure a 15-year-old Los Altos High School student into his car. Police charged Glen Rodriguez in the case.

Los Altos Police said they have no information that this suspect is connected to any of the recent child annoyance investigations in the area.

Police charge two with car break-ins

Los Altos Police charged two in connection with 14 car break-ins and two stolen cars on March 18 in the Rancho area of Los Altos.

Assisted by the Santa Clara County Crime Lab, Los Altos Police charged Ivan Jose Ron, 18, who was already in custody for auto theft on another case, said Sgt. Mark Macaulay with the Los Altos Police Department.

A second suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile from San Jose, was charged on May 18 and taken to juvenile hall. A third suspect, 19, is currently sought regarding auto theft, police said.

Memorial weekend DUI checkpoints

An Avoid the 13 Memorial Day weekend crackdown on drunk drivers begins this Friday and will continue until midnight, Monday.

One of the three checkpoints will be in Los Altos from 7-11 p.m., on Springer and Covington roads, said Sgt. Tom Connelly with the Los Altos Police Department. Mountain View Police will assist, Connelly said.

This will be the first year the Avoid the 13 has run a Memorial Day crackdown, said Jan Ford, a spokeswoman with the Police Chiefs' Association of Santa Clara County.

The sheriff's department will be adding extra DUI patrols in Los Altos Hills, Ford said.
