It may sound like a lot of money for a one-night affair, but not when you shop around for other options, organizers said last week. Doing some comparative pricing on their own, members of the Millennium Executive Committee discovered, for instance, that a dinner at the Plumed Horse in Saratoga can run $600 per couple. And traveling out of town to celebrate is not only a pricey proposition, but difficult to plan, at this point. Many flights and hotels are booked solid for such destinations as Las Vegas, Los Altos millennium organizers said. Leslie Lodestro, a member of the Millennium Executive Committee, said more than 800,000 are expected to swarm Las Vegas for the turn-of-the-century celebration. Talking closer to home, Los Altos millennium organizers said the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel gala dinner and entertainment, with two swing bands, is $525 per person, but that New Year's Eve party is only for hotel guests. Lodestro said San Francisco officials are expecting about 1.5 million people ringing in the New Year. Palm Springs offers a desert show for $750 per person. The Los Altos millennium celebration features a local gathering for 1,000 under a decorative tent, complete with a top swing band and a musical revue band, gourmet dinner, dancing, champagne and a midnight extravaganza show. Organizers said $250 of the $500 ticket is deductible toward the construction of a Los Altos History House Education Center. Tickets for the Millennium celebration will be mailed to all Los Altos and Los Altos Hills residents beginning this month. Fliers with more event details are available at the Town Crier, Los Altos City Hall and the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce.
