Continuing students may register online or by phone through June 23. New and former students may register online or by phone June 14-23. Late in-person registration is June 21-23 in the Admissions & Records Office at the Foothill and Middlefield campuses. Classes cost $8 per unit for California residents. The college is offering more than 1,000 summer courses, including classes in language arts, social sciences, computer technology and engineering. White water class offered at Foothill Foothill College in Los Altos Hills is offering a three-unit lecture class and field trip about California's white water geography during its summer session starting June 28. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from July 10-31 at Foothill College. Students will learn about the features and locations of California white water, management agencies and conflicts between users. Course enrollment is $8 per unit. There is also a one-unit, one-day white water field trip from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 7. Students will travel to one of California's premiere white water rivers for a rafting experience. Hazardous materials class at UCSC extension The University of California Extension, Santa Cruz is offering a six-week hazardous materials management certificate program from July 15 to Aug. 28 its Santa Clara site, 3120 De La Cruz Blvd. The program includes five courses designed to provide students a thorough background necessary for career growth or entry into the field of hazardous materials management. CUSD candidate information meeting The Cupertino Union School District Board of Education is scheduled to hold an informational meeting for prospective school board candidates at 6 p.m., June 22, in the district office boardroom, 10301 Vista Drive, Cupertino. Superintendent William Bragg will discuss the roles of board members and provide information for candidates interested in filing for the November 1999 election. KFJC hosts film festival Foothill College's nonprofit radio station KFJC will showcase the touring version of the 1999 Ann Arbor Film Festival at two locations this month. The showcase will feature 18 films from the festival, which will be shown in four one-hour segments with an intermission between each segment. The showcase will begin at 7 p.m., June 19, on the Foothill College campus in Room F-12. Parking is $2. The second showcase will be held at 4 p.m., June 20 at Towne Theater in San Jose, 1433 Alameda. A $5 donation is requested at both showings. Technology seminar The Santa Clara County Office of Education is hosting a technology seminar for local K-12 administrators. The seminar will feature ideas on applying technology to new California Content Standards, technical support and maintenance, ethics and legal issues related to using the Internet. Administrators may attend any of the four sessions scheduled at 8:30 a.m. to noon at local county Offices of education in Monterey (June 22), Santa Cruz (June 23), San Mateo (June 24) and Santa Clara (June 25). Music festival at Egan School Music for Minors is hosting the Children's Music Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 19, at Egan Intermediate School in Los Altos. The event will feature food, face painting, a market place and several featured performers. Tickets are $5 at the gate. All proceeds will benefit the non-profit Music for Minors program, which brings music education into local elementary schools. |
