Los Altos resident Juli Inkster captured the U.S. Women's Open last Sunday at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
Inkster shot a 16-under 272 to set a new U.S. Open record for the lowest 72-hole score in relation to par.
This is the first U.S. Open victory for the 38-year-old Inkster, who walked away with $315,000.
She came close to winning the event in 1992, finishing second to Patty Sheehan.
Inkster shot a 1-under 71 in Sunday's final round to win the Open by five strokes. The first three days she posted scores of 65, 69 and 67.
Inkster has now won four major championships in her 18-year career and 20 tournaments in all. Three of those victories have come this year.
