Los Altos City Manager Phil Rose announced June 9 that he has appointed a new finance director.

Starla Jerome-Robinson, currently finance director for the city of Atherton, "will bring a depth of experience to the position," Rose said.

Before working in Atherton, she worked for the city of Milpitas for 16 years, "being promoted to several positions throughout the organization," Rose said. Her last three positions with Milpitas were financial services manager, assistant finance director and finance director.

She will assume her new Los Altos position on July 5.

4 Seasons project to planning commission

The Los Altos Planning Commission will be considering a proposal for building a Marriott Courtyard hotel on the site of the Four Seasons Motel at its 7:30 p.m. meeting on Thursday.

The Four Seasons, currently the only motel in Los Altos, on El Camino Real between Los Altos Avenue and the Palo Alto city line, is home to 22 tenants who live there on a monthly rental basis.

The use permit is for 194-200 units, said John Challas, one of the developers and a Los Altos resident.

Term-limit proposal to be on Nov. ballot

The Los Altos City Council voted at its May 25 meeting to put an ordinance on the November ballot that would establish a limit of two consecutive terms for council members.

The city has had a policy for two terms for many years. "But it's not enforceable the way it is," said city attorney Bob Booth.

"It's not a real important issue because no one has violated it," said Mayor Lou Becker. But I support it."

Resident Bob Norton asked the council to consider that if a person is filling an unexpired term, that it count as a term if more than half of it is remaining.
