Following a rash of car break-ins in Mountain View and Los Altos, Los Altos Police arrested two suspects early in the morning of June 9.

Ricardo H. Grerrero, 21, and Jorge Vargas, 20, both of San Jose, were charged with burglary of a vehicle, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property. Police later booked them into the Santa Clara County Jail.

After two nights of car break-ins, Los Altos police were out "canvassing the neighborhoods hard, watching," said Sgt. Mark Macaulay of the Los Altos Police Department.

"When you work nights, you recognize which vehicles belong," Macaulay said.

Police spotted the suspects' car at 4 a.m. on June 9 at Fremont and Truman avenues. Police did a traffic stop at Highway 85 and Homestead Road, police said.

"Officers saw at least a dozen stereos in the back and burglary tools," Macaulay said. "They were arrested at the scene for possession of the burglary tools."

In addition to the car stereos, police found CD changers, cell phones, clothing and jewelry, police said.

During the early morning of June 9 there were six car break-ins in south Los Altos, according to the police log. They happened near Springer Road and Foothill Expressway, on Edge Lane, Seena and Russell avenues and Linda Vista Way.
