These awards, instituted by the CCS Board of Managers in 1985, recognize the varsity team from each sport with the highest collective grade-point average. The Los Altos boys tennis team topped its sport with a GPA of 3.6782. Pinewood won awards in two sports: baseball (3.3160) and boys volleyball (3.4550). The Eagles' tennis team consisted of Christopher Chan, Michael Chen, Jack Chou, Michael Duong, Jimmy Hwong, Patrick Jacobs, Remco Jacobs, Mike Lee, Nikki Narang, Reid Phillips, Ernie Santamaria, Michael Shye and Jonathan Wong. The Panthers' baseball team included Brian Amanatullah, Yavus Ayter, Brian Furstman, Alec Gustafson, Tim Jones, Sam Okin, Eric Slosberg, Josh Solera, Mike Weber, Aaron Wise, Ben Wong, Andy Woods, Eric Woods and Mike Wu. Their volleyball team was made up of Sohrab Amid-Hozour, Ben Berube, Will Brubaker, Eitan Chatav, Dave Collins, Chris Diaz, Marko Gardner, Ross Johnson and Brandon Krueger. These scholar-athletes were recently presented with a team trophy and individual certificates at their respective 1999 CCS Spring Sports Championships. Several other local teams came close to earning these awards. Los Altos was second in gymnastics (3.5714) and girls track and field (3.6565); third in badminton (3.3941), boys golf (3.4762) and boys swimming and diving (3.3404); and fourth in boys track (3.3226) and girls swimming (3.4384). St. Francis High took second in girls golf (3.3190); third in girls track (3.5180); fourth in gymnastics (3.3660); and sixth in baseball (3.1580) and girls swimming (3.3780). Gunn High was fourth in softball (3.4500); fifth in badminton (3.3200) and gymnastics (3.2510). Pinewood placed third in boys tennis (3.5320); fifth in boys golf (3.3610) and sixth in softball (3.3890). Mountain View High was fourth in girls track (3.4958). |
