Pet first aid for cats and dogs

The American Red Cross is offering a four-hour course teaching variations on standard first-aid and CPR for dogs and cats.

Participants will learn skills including how to protect both themselves and their pets from injury as well as learning to perform rescue breathing, how to stop bleeding, splint broken bones and treat poisoning.

Courses will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday in Palo Alto at the Palo Alto Area Red Cross, 400 Mitchell Lane, Palo Alto, and from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on August 24 at 2290 El Camino Real, Mountain View. Cost is $30, which includes a pet first aid book. For more information. call 688-1415.
