Los Altos resident Juli Inkster tied for sixth place at the LPGA Michelob Light Classic last weekend at Forest Hills Country Club in St. Louis.

Inkster, who last month won the career Grand Slam of women's pro golf, shot a 284 at the four-day Michelob Light Classic. This put her in a four-way tie for sixth with Wendy Doolan, Laura Philo and Nancy Scranton. Each of them earned $22,945.

Annika Sorenstam won the tournament with a 278 after beating Tina Barrett in a sudden death playoff that lasted three holes.

Inkster shot a 71 Thursday, a 69 Friday and posted 72s on Saturday and Sunday. Forest Hills is a par 72 course.

Next up for Inkster is the Japan Airlines Big Apple Classic, which starts Thursday in New Rochelle, N.Y. The four-day event has a purse of $850,000.

Another local does well

Linda Baek of Los Altos has qualified for this week's American Junior Golf Association Championship in Lincoln.

Baek did so by shooting an 80 at the AJGA Championship Qualifier last Sunday at Twelve Bridges Golf Course in Lincoln, which is outside Sacramento.

Baek is entering her junior year at St. Francis High, where she helped the girls golf team win the Central Coast Section title in May.
