U.S. President Bill Clinton, who attended the ceremony, presented Olson with her degree. Olson is a 1995 graduate of Los Altos High School. She served as news editor of the Chicago Maroon, the independent newspaper of the University of Chicago. She was the recipient of the University's foreign language grant in 1998 and the T. Kimball Brooker Prize for undergraduate Book Collecting in 1999, awarded by the University of Chicago Library. She was also named to the dean's list. Olson is fluent in English, Welsh, Norwegian and German.
