Graduates

Katharine Kristina Olson, daughter of Kenneth and Suzanne Olson of Los Altos, recently received her bachelor's degree with special honors in history from the University of Chicago. U.S. President Bill Clinton, who attended the ceremony, presented Olson with her degree. Olson is a 1995 graduate of Los Altos High School. She served as news editor of the Chicago Maroon, the independent newspaper of the University of Chicago. She was the recipient of the University's foreign language grant in 1998 and the T. Kimball Brooker Prize for undergraduate Book Collecting in 1999, awarded by the University of Chicago Library. She was also named to the dean's list. Olson is fluent in English, Welsh, Norwegian and German. She is currently living in Wales.

Sarah MacGregor, daughter of Andrea MacGregor of Los Altos and John MacGregor of Iowa, recently received her bachelor's degree in psychology, cum laude, from Cornell College in Iowa. She was also elected to Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology.

Melissa A. Turk of Los Altos Hills recently received a medical degree from the University of Vermont.

Joseph R. Puterbaugh, son of Dr. Merlin and Sue Puterbaugh of Los Altos Hills, received his doctorate degree from Claremont University Graduate School. Puterbaugh is a 1980 graduate of Los Altos High School and the University of California at Los Angeles. He received his master's degree from Loyola Marymount University.

Jolie Fernbach, daughter of Nancy and Stephen Fernbach of Los Altos, recently received a bachelor's degree in political science and Spanish from Washington University. She is a 1995 graduate of Mountain View High School.

Jennifer Usas graduated summa cum laude in psychology from Princeton University. Usas was a four-year varsity swimmer in the 500 and the 1 mile.

She received the Friends of Princeton Swimming Award for leadership, inspiration and dedication. In the fall, Usas will begin a Princeton Project 55 Public Interest Program Fellowship at Leak & Watt, a New York Children's Service organization.

Toki Rehder, daughter of Wulf Diedrich and Carol Ohashi Rehder of Mountain View, received a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology May 31 from Swarthmore College. She received the Lucretia Mott Fellowship. Rehder, a 1995 graduate of Los Altos High School, plans to attend the Georgetown Law Center in the fall.
