The economic development coordinator position for the city of Los Altos has been vacant since October 1997, and people hope that will change. Soon.
"We really need this position filled," said Julie Rose, executive director of the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce.
The council gave city staff the green light Feb. 23 to fill the position.
The city currently has ads running in local papers as well as professional journals, said Layne Long, assistant to the city manager.
This is the second time the city is advertising the job.
"We didn't get much response" the first time around, said Phil Rose, city manager.
The job will be full time, with the person's time divided equally between economic development for the city and working as a management analyst for the city manager.
The pay range is from $46,752 to $67,500.
The city is looking for a "good generalist," Long said.
"We want an advocate for business," Rose said. She said one issue currently of concern to the Chamber is downtown vacancies.
"I'm interested in seeing it (the economic development job) moving again," Rose said.
