Los Altos Senior Center

Friday: 1 p.m., movie, "The Philadelphia Story," with Cary Grant, James Stewart and Katherine Hepburn. The society marriage of Tracy Samantha Lord and C. K. Dexter Haven ends in divorce. A new marriage takes place when Tracy is about to marry George Kittridge.

Aug. 11: 9:30 a.m., board of directors meeting. All seniors are invited to attend. Bring suggestions to the table; your input is encouraged.

Aug. 16: Noon, luncheon Friday. Menu is barbecued chicken, potato salad, baked beans and chocolate cake. Cost is $4 with activity card and $6 without.

Aug. 30: Birthday bingo. Celebrate August birthdays with cake, ice cream, music and free bingo.

Aug. 18: Trip to Angel Island. Depart 9 a.m. Cost is $46 with an activity card, $51 without. Price includes round-trip transportation, ferry ride, picnic lunch and driver gratuity.

Sept. 18: Depart 10:30 a.m. to Dreyer's Ice Cream and Hooper's Chocolate Factory in Union City and Oakland. Cost is $48 with activity card, $53 without. Includes round-trip transportation, lunch and guided tour.

Note: The Los Altos Senior Center will be closed Aug. 23-27.

Mountain View Senior Center

The Los Altos Senior Center is located in the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave. in Los Altos. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information call 948-7483. Following is a list of special events for the month.

Thursday: 10 a.m., Dr. Nichole Barry will discuss new treatments for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. A nondrug treatment for arthritis of the knee will be highlighted.

Aug. 8: 2 p.m., Movie Sunday. "Beloved" staring Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover. The video runs for 72 minutes and is rated R. Admission is 50 cents. Refreshments will be served.

Aug. 12: 10 a.m., Outreach Transportation, a paratransit service for seniors, will be presented. Discussion includes what services are offered and who qualifies. There is a sign-up for the discussion.

Aug. 15: 2 p.m. Dance Sunday with "The Musical Commodores" playing popular ballroom favorites of the 1940s and 1950s. Admission is $3. Refreshments will be served.

Aug. 17: 11:15 a.m., Newcomers Group. An orientation and tour of the Senior Center and an overview of upcoming events and social services.

Aug. 22: 2 p.m., Musical Sunday with harpist Michelle Kohan. The remainder of the afternoon program will be varied. Admission is $1.

Aug. 29; 2 p.m., Video Sunday, "Dangerous Beauty," starring Catherine McCormack and Jacqueline Bisset. This is the true story of a woman who used her looks to seduce and defy the social conventions of 16th century Venice. Admission is 50 cents.
