Tickets are now available and can be purchased at a discounted price before Aug. 15. "This is the only celebration of its kind on the Peninsula and in Silicon Valley," said Gunilla Cook, executive director of the Millennium Committee. It allows friends to ring in the new millennium in a special setting, she said. Organizers said the event will be held in an elegant pavilion designed with a heating system, general and decorative lighting, carpeting, and an elevated platform for entertainment. The tent seats up to 1,000 people for an optional black-tie gourmet dinner beginning at 7 p.m. At 10:30 p.m., the pavilion will be transformed into a ballroom able to accommodate an additional 2,000 guests. Strolling entertainers will set the stage for an evening of music and dancing featuring the jazz ensemble Bay Area All Star Big Band, and Full Motion, a contemporary Las Vegas-style show band. A surprise extravaganza is scheduled for midnight. The Millennium Eve Celebration has three packages to choose from. The Millennium Club Package, the most comprehensive of the three, includes cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, a five-star gourmet dinner, entertainment and midnight festivities. Tickets can be purchased for $450 per person until Aug. 15. After that date, the price increases to $500 per person. For late-night party-goers interested in dancing, champagne toasts and a midnight celebration, the Countdown 2000 Package begins at 10:30 p.m. Cost is $75 per person. A Youth Arcade Package is also available. Activities begin at 7 p.m. and include video games, a DJ, dancing, a wide variety of food, and the Millennium Extravaganza. Tickets are $75 per child. Child-care programs and overnight slumber parties are available for Millennium Club attendees. The Millennium Celebration is sponsored by the Los Altos Cultural Association, a not-for-profit corporation. Proceeds will benefit the Education Center at History House in Los Altos.
