Hoops for girls

Stanford's 3-on-3 Girls Basketball Tournament is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday in the Ford/Burnham Center at Stanford University. Players in sixth through 12th grade are eligible to compete in the round-robin event. Cost is $175 for each four-player team. Fee includes a minimum of eight games, a T-shirt, goody bag and awards. To sign up or for an application, call the Stanford women's basketball office at 725-7193.

A shot at the pros

Homestead High graduate Jason Tenner is part of the San Francisco 49ers training camp roster in Stockton. Tenner, who spent the past four seasons as a standout defensive lineman at Villanova University, signed with the Niners over the winter. He started training camp as a defensive tackle but recently moved to offensive tackle, a position he last played at Homestead.

Run for fun

The Chronicle Classic, a five-mile run hosted by the Palo Alto Recreation Department, is set for Sunday in downtown Palo Alto. Race-day registration starts at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 8:30 a.m. The starting line is the corner of Hamilton and Cowper streets. Registration is $25 on race day and includes a T-shirt. Prizes include a trip for two to Hawaii for the top male and female finisher, plus medals for the top three in each age division. A party with food, music and drawings is planned for after the race. What a racquet

The YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula, 755 Page Mill Road in Palo Alto, is organizing a fall racquetball League Sept. 11 through Nov. 14. The league welcomes A-, B-, C- and D-level players. Sign-up deadline is Aug. 27. Fees are $20 for members, $26 for non-members. For more information, call 858-0661.
