Golfer Charlie Woerner of Los Altos is competing in the U.S. Amateur Championship, which began Monday and runs through Sunday on the coast at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spy Glass Hill Golf Course. Woerner earned an invitation by winning the recent qualifying tournament at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club.

Former Peninsula football coach Ben Parks tees it up for charity Monday as host of Coach Parks Third Annual Celebrity Classic at Stanford Golf Course. The tournament starts at 10:30 a.m. and costs $300 to enter. Former NFL standouts Ronnie Lott, Keena Turner, Eric Wright and John Vella have been invited to play. Synchronized swimmer Teresa Liccardo of Los Altos Hills last month won the trio and team competitions at the United States Open in St. Peters, Mo. Liccardo, age 15, is a sophomore at Gunn High.
