Orchard origins still evident in early Los Altos homes

In 1913, Palo Alto merchants, the Widemans, built a farmhouse for their San Antonio Road orchard. The entrance is now from Yerba Buena Drive. A notable feature of the property is the finest tank house left in its original location in Los Altos. It was used at one time to store stage sets for an early Los Altos Players theater group.

Yip received her library degree at the University of California at Berkeley, and began her library career with the Oakland Public Library System, working as a children's librarian and at the Asian Library. She then worked as adult program librarian in Morgan Hill for 10 years. After a year as a substitute librarian in the Valley, she rejoined the county system at Cupertino for four years.

Robert David de Vos, son of Chris and Karen de Vos of Los Altos, recently graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. De Vos participated in the five-year cooperative education program and graduated with high honors with a bachelor's degree in computer engineering. De Vos made the dean's list every quarter he was enrolled at Georgia Tech. He is finishing his 2,160-mile hike of the Appalachian Trail this month. He plans to attend a master's program in computer engineering this fall at Georgia Tech.
