The annual paving and resurfacing of selected Los Altos streets begins next month.
This year, with the help of an additional $589,000 in county funds from the 1/2-cent Measure B sales tax, twice the number of streets will be repaired in Los Altos as in past years.
This includes 54 streets that are scheduled for resurfacing with asphalt concrete and 69 streets selected for slurry seal.
Dig-out and repair work and street resurfacing is scheduled to begin Sept. 7, said Jim Porter, assistant director of public works.
On the day of the slurry seal, which will begin Sept. 27, all traffic will be closed on that street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to allow for the application and then time for it to set.
Parking will be temporarily prohibited for various times during the repair.
Temporary "no parking" signs will be posted on barricades. These signs will be posted at least 48 hours in advance, said Bruce Bane, director of public works.
"Any vehicles parked in violation of these signs will be towed in order to accomplish the work," Bane said.
The city's contractor also is notifying residents by mail of the impending work, he said.
The work will continue into October.
