MV resident makes second round of USTA

June Lee of Mountain View and doubles partner Farah Karipineni of Fremont made it to the second round of the recent United States Tennis Association Girls 18 National Championships in San Jose.

** missed drop char **In the Aug. 8 first round, Lee-Karipineni beat the team of Nicole Ptak of Great Neck, N.Y., and Betsy Shapiro of South Orange, N.J., by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

The next day, Lee-Karipineni fell 6-2, 6-4 to Elizabeth Sauerborn of Aiken, S.C. and Alexandra Smith of Marietta, Ga.

The girls tournament, which featured both doubles and singles competition, was held at Almaden Valley Athletic Club. The doubles portion included a draw of 128 top players from across the nation.
