LAHS seeks CC coach

Los Altos High is in desperate need of a coach to head up its boys and girls cross country team. Practice has already started and the season begins in September. Those interested in the job should call athletic director Monica Lodge at 960-8857 or fax her at 947-9675.

Get on the green

The Cupertino Kiwanis Club Classic golf tournament is scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday at the Saratoga Country Club. Entry fee is $130 and the field is limited to 60 players. For more information, call (408) 252-3830.

Knapp leads Oakland

Despite a team-high 15 points from former Foothill College basketball star Krista Knapp, Oakland lost 102-82 to San Francisco in the San Francisco Bay Area Women's Pro-Am League championship game Aug. 7 at Kezar Pavilion. Knapp, a 6-foot senior now playing at the University of San Francisco, was 5-for-12 shooting. Oakland finished the summer season with a 6-3 record.

Pumas pounce on title

The Pumas, the Palo Alto Soccer Club's under-19 boys CYSA team, won the Nike Surf Cup Aug. 8 in San Diego. The team featured Los Altos Hills resident Paddy Sullivan of Woodside Priory, Taylor Moore of St. Francis High and Tom Allen and Hiro Kasano of Gunn High. The Pumas beat the San Carlos Strikers 5-3 in the championship game and won four of their five tournament matches.

What a racquet

The YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula, 755 Page Mill Road in Palo Alto, is organizing a fall racquetball league ro run Sept. 11 through Nov. 14. The league welcomes A-, B-, C- and D-level players. Sign-up deadline is Friday. Fees are $20 for members, $26 for non-members. For more information, call 858-0661.
