For further evidence, note the huge turnout at an Aug. 25 session discussing the feasibility of one-story overlay zones. The community workshop at the Los Altos United Methodist Church drew between 350 and 400 residents, observers said. Planning Director Larry Tong said the city received nearly 350 written responses to the issue, which staff will be working to compile over the next one-to-two months. Tong said discussion included advantages or disadvantages of a one-story overlay zone, which would prohibit building of two-story homes in areas dominated by single-story houses. "It was a huge success," Tong said. "There were a very large diversity of opinions - we got all sides of the issues." Tong said that based on the feedback, the issue would be back before the planning commission and city council this fall. |
