According to the tentative council agenda, the council will be considering two requests for variances for new homes to exceed the allowable maximum development area, one at a property on Westwind Way and another on Chapin Road. The council will also consider a request for a driveway and rear-yard encroachment into an existing conservation easement at a property on Francemont Court. The council meeting will be at the Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills. For more information, call 941-7222. Community mural OK'd by LA Council The Los Altos City Council approved a community paint-by-number mural fund-raising project for the side of a building at the 75 Main St. The council tweaked the original proposal, changing its name from "Spirit of the Millennium," to "Welcome to Los Altos." Names of supporters will be smaller than originally requested. It may stay up for six months, following its installation scheduled for Oct. 2. And it is to be completed in three days, so no blank spaces are left. The design is a playful presentation of downtown Los Altos, complete with animals in a wagon representing the Pet Parade and a train and tracks with the conductor's hat reading "Shoup" after one of Los Altos' founders. It was created by Jim M'Guinness, a local artist known for his design of Arts & Wine Festival posters. Additional costs for overlay-zone workshop The Los Altos City Council approved, at its Aug. 24 meeting, an additional $3,325 for the one-story overlay zone facilitated workshop that was held Aug. 25. This money covered the cost of mailing a postcard to every home in Los Altos, giving notice of the town hall-type meeting. Apparently the cards were successful. Officials said between 350 and 400 attended the event that was held at the Los Altos United Methodist Church. - Joanne Griffith Domingue |
