What a summer it's been for the Fair sisters of Los Altos.

In July, Lorrie Fair played on the United States women's soccer team that won the World Cup in Pasadena.

On Aug. 8, Lorrie's twin sister, Ronnie, helped the U.S. Under-21 National Team capture the Nordic Cup soccer championship in Reykjavich, Iceland.

Team USA reclaimed the Nordic Cup title with a sudden-death overtime goal for a 2-1 victory over Norway.

The game-winning goal came six minutes into the extra period on a shot by Lauren Orlandos.

Fair, a defender, played all 96 minutes of the championship. The Stanford senior started four games in the tournament, the world's top competition for under-21 women.

In the semifinals, Fair was part of a defense that limited Denmark to only three shots in a 3-0 U.S. win.

The win avenges a loss to Norway in last year's Nordic Cup title match and made it two-out-of-three years that the Americans have claimed world bragging rights for youth women's national teams, also beating Norway in the final in 1997 in Denmark.

"Our objectives were met, which is always very satisfying because they are so high," said U.S. Head Coach Lauren Gregg. "There are many players who have developed in this program who will be part of our full national team for the years to come. And they have learned what it means to be part of this program, to be champions. I'm extremely proud of this team."

The USA has lost just one match in its age group in international competition since Gregg was named coach.
