The De Anza Force, a newly formed CYSA U15 Class 1 Select girls team, took second place in the under-15 division of the recent California Cup Tournament in Sacramento.

The Force features players from Los Altos, Mountain View, Cupertino, Saratoga and as far away as Burlingame.

The Cupertino-based Force won five consecutive games before falling to the San Juan Spirits 3-0 in the championship match. The Force's road to the final included a dramatic 5-4 shootout win over the Ukiah Puma Strikers. Goalkeeper Ashley Mason made the only save of the overtime shootout, stopping Ukiah's third penalty kick. The Force went 5-1 in the annual tournament and out-scored its opponents 14 to 10.

The California Cup tournament brings together 240 teams from Northern and Southern California, plus a large number of out-of-state teams and one from Holland.
