St. Francis High athletic director Steve DeMaestri recently announced that radio station KBZS 1220 AM will air eight of the school's varsity football games during the upcoming season.
Broadcasts begin with this Friday's home game against Hollister-San Benito. The radio schedule also includes away games against powerhouses De La Salle and Oak Grove.
Said DeMaestri about the broadcasts: "We are very excited about the opportunity to have our games aired on KBZS this season. The broadcasts will enhance our fans' enjoyment of the games and will benefit opposing fans as well.
"This also will help to promote high school athletics and will portray high school students in a positive manner. We are very grateful to our sponsors who have made this all possible."
Broadcast times will be 7:15 p.m., beginning with head coach Mike Mitchell's pre game show, followed by preview of that evening's match-up.
The half-time show will feature interviews with key figures in St. Francis and Central Coast Section athletics. The post-game show will include a recap of the evening's action, interviews and more.
San Francisco-based KBZS also is the home of Santa Clara University and San Jose State University men's basketball. Its 10,000 watt signal will provide nighttime coverage extending from roughly Morgan Hill in the south to San Bruno in the north.
Calling the play-by-play will be announcer George Devine who called Lancer football action on last year's radio broadcasts, as well as on KMVT Television in Mountain View. He also is entering his fourth year as the radio play-by-play voice of USF women's basketball.
In addition, Devine has done freelance reporting assignments for several national radio networks, including ESPN and CBS Sportsline.
