Talking football

Jim Wyatt, in his 47th year as game day operations coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, is the guest speaker at noon, today at the Sons in Retirement luncheon at the Palo Alto Elks Club on El Camino Real. Wyatt will give an update on the 49ers. For more information, call 948-5432.

Playing time

The Palo Alto Jewish Community Center is taking sign-ups for its Fall 3-on-3 Basketball League, planned for Sunday afternoons. Open to those age 40 and over, and "couch potatoes" are welcome. Cost is $15 per player or $75 per five-player teams. Games begin Sept. 26. For more information, call Tom Scatchard at (408) 448-2562.

Riding for a cause

The fifth annual Ben Eckenhoff Memorial Bike Ride is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this Sunday. The ride starts in ALZA's Building Q parking lot at 2627 Hanover St. in Palo Alto and winds through Portola Valley and Woodside. Riders can take a 10-, 20- or 35-mile course. The $25 donation goes toward hematology research at Stanford Medical Center and each cyclist will receive a T-shirt and lunch. Eckenhoff, a longtime Los Altos resident, died in 1994 after a long battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Los Altos High needs a varsity girls soccer coach, a junior varsity softball coach, a hurdles coach for track and assistant coaches for girls swimming and gymnastics. If interested, call Monica Lodge at 960-8857. Mountain View High seeks girls and boys JV soccer coaches, a JV boys basketball coach, plus varsity and JV baseball coaches.
