The brunch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Mountain View City Hall (second floor), 500 Castro St. The League invites current and prospective members to discover how their interests intersect with ongoing League projects. Housing, election systems, international relations, education and natural resources are among the current topics under discussion. Leadership workshop with kids in mind The Los Altos Community Foundation is supporting a five-day workshop, "Los Altos Citizen - Kids Make A Difference," for children in fourth through sixth grades. The program, begins Oct. 25 and exposes students to government organizations, business and public art in Los Altos. It will include a mock city council meeting. The workshop is offered through the Los Altos Parks and Recreation Department. For registration information, call 941-0950. Gem and geology show set for Rancho The annual Peninsula Gem and Geology Show is set for 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Saturday, at Rancho Shopping Center, corner of Springer Road and Foothill Expressway, Los Altos. Free samples of California's state rock - serpentine, Montana agate and chalcedony roses will be available. Also included are demonstrtions of rock sawing and polishing. The society also has a display of mineral and polished rocks at the Los Altos main library through Sept. 30. Info sought on old market The oral history program of the Los Altos History House Association is looking for information about the early days of Adamant Market, the small store at 994 Los Altos Ave. When the store was built, prior to World War II, the street was then named Santa Rita. 'A Wild 3-Day Weekend' of big cats The Cheetah Conservation Fund is presenting "A Wild 3-Day Weekend" Oct. 1-3, featuring lectures and slide presentations and presentations of the live cats themselves. Two presentations are set for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Oct. 3, at Foothill College. For more information, call (408) 353-4039. Masonic program open to public A special program on "Constitutional Observance and Special Heroes of '76" will start at 7:30 p.m., Monday, in the main lodge room of the Los Altos Masonic Lodge, 146 Main St., Los Altos. This 45-minute program will be performed by the Heroes of '76, dressed in uniforms of the Continental Army worn during the American Revolution! They state: "The purposes of this program are to promote patriotism and Americanism, and to nurture the love of our country and its flag." The public is invited. Garden club plant sale The Garden Club of Los Altos will hold its "Fall Plant and Bake Sale" 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, on the Creekside Room patio of the United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave., Los Altos. Unusual plants, dried floral bouquets, produce and homemade baked goods will be available at reasonable prices. The public is invited to attend the sale and also stay for the 1:30 p.m. program on "Planting a Bulb Garden" with featured speakers Chris Pavlos and Bryan Schoop of Van Bloem Gardens. There will be a $5 charge for those attending the program. Lempert to host pancake breakfast Assemblyman Ted Lempert, who represents the 21st district, is hosting a pancake breakfast for constituents in Los Altos this coming Saturday. The free breakfast is scheduled for 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hilview Ave., Los Altos. "Being able to sit down to breakfast with the people I represent and discuss issues that concern them is really important to me," Lempert said.
