Late registration postmark deadline is Oct. 1. There is an additional fee for late registration. ACT scores are accepted or preferred by more four-year colleges than any other college entrance and placement exam, according to school officials. ACT scores are accepted at all Ivy League colleges. Photography classes The University of California Extension, Santa Cruz, at 10420 Bubb Road in Cupertino, is offering several photography workshops this fall. "Magic in Taos: Photography, Art and Culture," is a five-day workshop, Sept. 23-27, based in Taos, Mexico. Students will explore the region while fine tuning their photographic skills. "Grand Canyon Views: Autumn at North Rim," is a five-day workshop that takes place at North Rim village at Grand Canyon National Park. Students will stay six nights at the Grand Canyon Lodge. Tuition is $765. "Twilight Photography: Techniques to Work During the Edge of Light," is a three-day workshop exploring professional techniques for successful photography during the twilight hours. The course will be held from 7:30-9 p.m., Friday; from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday; and from 6 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Parent Preschool has openings The Los Altos Parent Preschool still had openings for its 4-year-old, three-day program on opening day Sept. 13. The nonprofit preschool has provided art, science, music and other classes for children ages 3-5 for the past 46 years. The preschool raised enough funds over the summer to purchase two play structures for its site at Los Altos High School, where it relocated last year. For more information, call 941-3224. Registration for preschool Registration is now being accepted for the Mountain View Recreation Division Preschool, afternoon class. 'Children's Authors' night for parents Family Connections is hosting "An Evening with Children's Authors" from 7-9 p.m., Sept. 29 at the Sequoia High School Auditorium, 1201 Brewster Ave. in Redwood City. The event will feature presentations by four award-winning children's authors and illustrators: Bob Barner, Shirley Climo, Ruth Heller and Thacher Hurd. The event is recommended for parents only. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Proceeds will benefit Family Connections, a parent participation preschool for low-income families. Mini medical school premieres at UCSF The University of California at San Francisco will open its first-ever "Mini Medical School" Oct. 6 in response to the public's growing interest in understanding the impact of scientific and medical advances on society. Faculty members from the school's dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy departments will address key science and health issues and answer questions during the two-hour classes, which run on six successive Wednesday nights. The series, which runs from Oct. 6 through Nov. 10, is open to anyone interested in learning more about the concepts and processes of human health and biology. The series costs $40.
