MacArthur Park Winefest benefit - Oct. 9

More than 70 California wineries will feature over 200 wines in the 18th annual MacArthur Park Winefest from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 9, at MacArthur Park restaurant, 27 University Ave., Palo Alto.

The event includes wine-tasting, food, live music, a silent auction, and an opportunity to win a catered barbecue for 20.

Winefest tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door, and will benefit programs and services for the Palo Alto Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. For ticket information, call 321-9990.

"Surviving the big one" panel - Oct. 16

The Palo Alto Area Red Cross, Churchill Club and The Tech Museum of Innovation team up to present a program on earthquake survival, 9-10:30 a.m., Oct. 16, at The Tech Museum of Innovation, 145 W. San Carlos, San Jose.

To be held on the day before the 10th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, speakers will address national response and regional recovery plans.
