Garage sale to benefit MVHS music program

The Mountain View High School Music Parents Association will hold its annual garage sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 2, in the faculty parking lot in front of Mountain View High School, 3535 Truman Ave. Proceeds will benefit the high school's music program. For more information, call 962-1148.

First performance by MVHS marching band

The Mountain View High School Spartan marching band and color guard will perform in full uniform for the first time this school year at 4 p.m., Saturday, in the outdoor stadium at the high school, 3535 Truman Ave.

The performance is part of their community thank-you event to the neighborhood and will include performances by other local area high school bands.

Mountain View holds youth conference

The city of Mountain View is hosting the fourth Mayor's Youth Conference from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Civic Center Plaza in downtown Mountain View. Mayor Mary Lou Zoglin will lead the conference. The conference will provide teens the opportunity to share what they do and would like to do after school and on weekends.

Approximately 250 students from the Mountain View and Los Altos area are expected to attend.

Parents observe state's 'Walk to School' day

Parents throughout California will leave their cars at home Oct. 6 in honor of the state's "Walk a Child to School Day." The day was initiated to promote safe pedestrian behavior and highlight the benefits of safe school routes. For more information about the day, call 1-887-4-SAFE RT or go to safert@jba-cht.com.

Literacy program volunteers needed

The Mountain View-Los Altos Adult School is looking for volunteers for its "Literacy in the Garden" and "Literacy in the Classroom" programs this fall. Volunteers work six to seven Tuesdays to help elementary children with their language skills. Training is provided. For more information and registration, call Linda McCrary at 940-6024.
