Blaze the trail

The Trailblazer Race, hosted by Friends of the Stevens Creek Trail, is set for 8:30 a.m., Sunday. The event features 10- and 5-kilometer runs, 2- and 4-mile nature walks and youth races along the Stevens Creek Trail in Mountain View. Starting line is Charleston Park. Race-day registration is $25 for adults, $15 for youth 12 and under and $55 for families of four. For more information, call 903-6067.

Making a splash

Jim Triolo of the Los Altos Masters Swim Club returned from last month's United States Masters National Long Course Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., with two gold medals and four silvers. The Cupertino resident also set a national record in the 200-meter backstroke for the 85-89 age division. Triolo's winning time of 4 minutes, 32.50 seconds broke the old mark by two seconds. His other victory came in the 1,500 freestyle, which he swam in 35 minutes, 32.85 seconds.

Pick up sticks

Lacrosse Fall Ball, a program led by the Palo Alto Tomahawks and the Stanford University lacrosse team, starts Sunday on Stanford's lacrosse field at El Camino Real and Churchill Road. The program runs 2-4 p.m. every Sunday in October. It is open to players of all levels who are in fourth through 12th grade. Sticks will be loaned to those who do not have them. Cost is $40. To register, call Mary Wachtel at 854-4920 or show up at 1 p.m., Sunday.

Playing time

The Palo Alto Jewish Community Center is taking sign-ups for its Fall 3-on-3 Basketball League, planned for Sunday afternoons after NFL games. Open to those age 40 and over; "couch potatoes" are welcome. Cost is $15 per player or $75 per five-player teams. Games begin Sunday. For more information, call Tom Scatchard at (408) 448-2562.
