Perry to speak in Los Altos

Former Secretary of Defense (1994-1997) William J. Perry will be the special guest speaker at the October lunch meeting of the Peninsula Democratic Coalition.

Perry, a Los Altos resident, will discuss "How Geopolitics Can Conflict with Domestic Politics."

The lunch and talk will begin at noon, Saturday at Chef Chu's Restaurant, on the corner of San Antonio Road and El Camino Real in Los Altos.

The cost of the lunch is $15 and reservations are required.

Perry, an envoy to North Korea, made national headlines recently. He developed a strategy to ease economic sanctions against the country in an effort to thwart testing and advancement of nuclear weapons programs.

Lecture series on San Jose Cleveland Ballet

The San Jose Cleveland Ballet presents "Dance Dialogues" at the Los Altos Public Library, an educational lecture series that provides a discussion on each of the scheduled ballets. The first lecture, titled "A Midsummer Night's Dream: Storytelling in Dance," is scheduled for 7:30 tonight.

'Chefs Who Care' at i Fratelli

The October "Chefs Who Care" benefit for the Community Services Agency (CSA) will be held 5-7 p.m., Oct. 12 at i Fratelli Restaurant, 388 Main St., Los Altos.

Price, including gratuity, is $18, if prepaid by Sunday. Price at the door is $20. Half the dinner cost is donated to the CSA Food and Nutrition Center, which serves needy residents.

Antique show in Los Altos

A "California Country" antique show is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos. The event, sponsored by the Los Altos History House Museum, will feature a $100 drawing at 2 p.m.

Fed women's club helps History House

The Federated Women's Club of Los Altos will sponsor a dessert tea and "Portraits of the Past" at 1 p.m., Oct. 15 at the Garden House in Shoup Park. Members of the San Jose Historical Museums will make the presentation and all funds will go to the Educational House project.

Social Security subject of forum

"The Future of Social Security" will be the topic of an upcoming public forum co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters of Los Altos-Mountain View. The forum is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday at Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St.
