Lecturer Ramona Rockwell will discuss several operas from the San Francisco Opera 1999-2000 season at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 13 in the Los Altos Library Program Room. She will comment on "Lucia de Lammermoor," Mozart's "Idomeneo," and "The Rake's Progress." The lectures are free and open to all.

"The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood will be the second title in the Los Altos Library's book discussion series on family life in contemporary fiction. Everyone is welcome to the 7:30 p.m. discussion, Oct. 13 in the Los Altos Library conference room. No registration is necessary.
