A vest-pocket park, good for resting when walking downtown. Will be dedicated at 10 a.m. , Oct. 23.Covington mini-park: 2.5 acres, 201 Covington Road and also accessible from the end of Rosita Avenue. Features two tennis courts, tennis backboard, sand volleyball court, tot lot, picnic area with 11 picnic tables and 10 barbecues. Grant Park: 4.5 acres, 1575 Holt Ave. Includes a large multi-purpose turf area, pathway, children's play equipment, picnic tables, benches and a small basketball court area. Located at the former Grant School site. Heritage Oaks Park: 5.3 acres, at Portland and Miramonte avenues. A multi-use park adjacent to Permanente Creek. Features a large turf area, eight picnic tables, five barbecue pits, playground areas for pre-school and school-age. Hillview Community Center: 6.1 acres, 97 Hillview Ave. Includes soccer fields, a baseball field, tot lot in front of the youth center and a play area called Whistlestop U.S.A. Lincoln Park: 1.1 acres, University Avenue at Foothill Expressway. This park is a greenbelt along University Avenue, filled with pieces of public art. Marymeade Park: 2.5 acres, Grant Road at Fremont Avenue: Three lighted tennis courts, four picnic tables, four barbecue pits, turf and playground areas with tot lot. McKenzie Park: 4.3 acres, 707 Fremont Ave. Two parks in one, with tennis courts on the Fremont side and play areas on the Clinton Avenue side. Access is from Fremont Avenue. Some have suggested the tennis courts as a possible location for a community swimming pool. Montclaire Park: 1.1 acres, 1160 St. Joseph Ave. Adjacent to Montclaire School, this park includes two lighted tennis courts, four picnic tables, two barbecues and a tot lot. Redwood Grove Nature Preserve: 5.9 acres, 482 University Ave. A natural, pastoral setting along Adobe Creek, a nature boardwalk that follows Adobe Creek, trails that wind among redwood trees. Monthly open house on the third Sunday of the month, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is along University Avenue. Rosita Park: 5.5 acres, 401 Rosita Ave. The city bought the site, the former St. William School, in 1996. After tearing down the school buildings, the city has put in soccer fields and a baseball diamond. The park will be dedicated at 4 p.m., Friday. Shoup Park: 3.7 acres, 400 University Ave. Picnic tables, barbecue pits, Garden House suitable for gatherings of up to 150; tot play area, grassy areas, Adobe Creek runs along the edge, site of the veteran memorial, Cradle of Liberty. |
