A Los Altos High School Athletics Facilities Fund has been established to raise approximately $150,000 for improvements to the new school pool, including a new scoreboard, touch pads and lighting. Supporters said the funding would give the high school a quality facility for regulation competition in swimming, diving and water polo.
Business and individual donations of $1,000 or more will be recognized through permanent, commemorative inscriptions.

Bellarmine holds fund-raiser show
Bellarmine College Preparatory will host the 45th Annual Mothers' Guild Scholarship Endowment Fund Fashion Show Oct. 22 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
"For The Boys ... Generations of Excellence" will feature a lunch and dinner show. Lunch begins at 11 a.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.
The fashion show was established to generate funds for the Bellarmine College Preparatory Scholarship Fund, which allows qualified students to attend Bellarmine, irrespective of their family's ability to meet the tuition. Each year the fashion show raises abut $100,000 for this fund.
Luncheon reservations are $68 per person; dinner reservations are $115 per person.

Foothill station holds record swap
Foothill College's radio station KFJC will host a record swap from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 24 in the Main Dining Hall at Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.
Those interested in a particular record, artist, CD or musical genre may call the Record Swap Want List Hot Line at 949-7555. Callers may search up to three items.
The hot line is open from now until Oct. 14.
A $2 donation is requested at the record swap. Parking is $2.
Loyola hosts 'Be An Angel'
Loyola School will host the "Be An Angel - Drive 25" campaign from now through Oct. 15 in order to promote better driver behavior within the school's neighborhood.
The campaign targets two key problem streets in the Loyola area: Berry Avenue between Springer Road and Miramonte Avenue and Golden Way between Altos Oaks Drive and the Mountain View border at Lincoln Drive. These streets have campaign signs in addition to the regular speed limit signs to remind driver's of the 25 mph speed limit in the area.
Los Altos foundation holds phone-a-thon
The Los Altos Educational Foundation will hold its phon-a-thon Oct. 18-20 from the offices of Coldwell Banker, Seville Properties and Alain Pinel.
The foundation was established in 1982 to fund programs in the Los Altos School District - such as art, music and science - that would not be covered in the regular budget.
Organizers hope to raise $600,000 for the district's six elementary schools and two junior high schools at this year's fund-raiser.
Notre Dame holds information night

Loyola holds walk-a-thon
Loyola School will hold its walk-a-thon this Saturday at 770 Berry Ave., Los Altos. All proceeds will support the school.
This year's theme "Go West" will mix history into the annual fund-raiser by having students walk along a mock Oregon Trail from Independence, Mo., to California. The public is invited to attend the event.
Los Altos High holds homecoming
Los Altos High School will hold its annual Homecoming Parade in downtown Los Altos at noon, this Friday, starting at Lincoln Park and continuing down Main Street.
The parade will feature this year's homecoming court, school marching band, numerous floats and school groups and mayors of Los Altos and Mountain View.
The school king and queen will be announced during half-time at the football game against Mountain View High School. The games starts at 3:15 p.m. at Los Altos High School.
Los Altos band in tournament
The Los Altos High School marching band will compete in the Cupertino Tournament of Bands this Saturday. The band is scheduled to performs in the parade competition at 10:30 a.m. on Stevens Creek Avenue in Cupertino.
The field competition will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Cupertino High School football stadium. Los Altos is scheduled to perform at 6:15 p.m. for this portion of the competition.
Astronomy lecture at Foothill College
Foothill College in Los Altos Hills is scheduled to kick off its Silicon Valley Astronomy Lecture Series at 7 p.m., Oct. 13 in the Smithwick Theater. Geoffrey Marcy, the man who has discovered more planets than any other person in history, will debut the series with a nontechnical presentation on how planets are now being found and what information we already know about new planets. Admission is free.
Springer School holds 'Technology Night'
In honor of National Technology in Education Month, Springer School will host its annual Technology Night from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 14 in the school's Multipurpose Room, 1120 Rose Ave. in Mountain View.
The purpose of the event is to show the community how computers are used at Springer and to celebrate technology in education.
The event will feature live tours and demonstrations of computing in the classroom and in the computer lab, an online tour of the Springer Web site and demonstrations of educational software.
Preschool Co-op has Fall Openings
The Mountain View Parent Nursery School still has fall openings for its Young Fives program, which meets from 12:30-3:30 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays.
The "Young Fives" program is intended as an extra year of school before kindergarten, not in place of kindergarten.
